Pathari

Pathri is a small city in the morang district of Nepal between Manglabare in the east and Kane Pokhari in the west. The northern side of the bazaar begins the dense forest of Churia Range which extends up to the hilly region . Although the main Pathari Bazaar comprised the densely populated area around the Mahendra Highway, but Pathri V.D.C touches Urlabari V.D.C. in the East, Hasandaha V.D.C in the south and also slightly touches Rajghat V.D.C and Belbari V.D.C in east south and west region respectively. It is a kind of new city where people from the Hills start migrating once the East West Mahendra Highway was built and deforestation started for various reasons. Initially it has population of Limbus, Rais, Tamangs, Gurungs, etc i.e. Matwalis(Nepali ethinic Caste group that describes people who prepare home-made alcohol and consumes alcohol and have mongolian faces). The newly arrived, economically distressed and uneducated group of the small population who migrated from Northern Hills made wood-cutting and poultry farming as the means of living since they were closed to forests. Slowly ex-armies of India and countable number of ex-British families also migrated here, which changed the picture of the city from the small-huts chowk in to bricked-houses. The city did not expanded until the jamindar landlords and middle class farmers, mostly Chettris and Bahuns from the southern villages like Hasandaha, Amardaha, Rajghat moved to this small chowk looking the future perspective of the small chowk especially because it is located attached to the only East West Highway of the Nepal. Instead of going to Rangeli,Biratnagar and other border towns, historically popular for the agriculture related trade, this farmers from Southern Villages started to frequent to Pathari especially of the reason that is towards highway, which is more safer and closer than previous trade centers. As the small chowk grow to become town, the number of restaurants increased, cinema theatre was built, traditionally business people like Baniyas and Marwaris also increased the number of stalls and shops. The city is still growing mostly to the southern side because of government regulated forest in the North and real estate cost is also soaring. There are considerable number of boarding schools, permanent police station and especially the businesses targeted for the farmers of Southern villages. Besides East West Highway there are also bus service towards souther cities like Bhoteghumti, Hasandaha, Amardaha, Aitabare, Sundari Chowk, Kirtipur, Buddha Chowk, Sombare,Lamatoli, milan chowk etc which are overwhelmy packed during Hatta(Bazaar day) days. As the male members of the families from lower class families from Pathari itself and southern villages in the South travelled to Middle East countries for the jobs, it increased the spending capacity of the people and once the small tole of several hits grow into a town, with jewelleries store, fancy clothes store, well served restaurants and others.
